<\/p>\nSome time ago we informed that the EU Regulation on the protection of geographical indications for artisanal and industrial products came into force.<\/p>\n
We can now see the first results of this, as the name \u2018Joyer\u00eda de C\u00f3rdoba\u2019 is the first Spanish designation to have been registered under such mentioned EU Regulation, granting protection across the 27 EU Member States.<\/p>\n
This IP right protects the name against misuse, imitation and misleading commercial practices, including in online marketplaces. As from now on, only producers operating within the municipality of C\u00f3rdoba and complying with the registered product specification may use the protected name.<\/p>\n
C\u00f3rdoba\u2019s jewellery tradition dates back more than a thousand years and now gets into a common European framework of recognition and protection. The pieces are recognised for the quality of their design and finish and for achieving an optimal balance between weight and volume. All stages of production and packaging must take place within the defined geographical area, helping to preserve the integrity and authenticity of the products and their connection with C\u00f3rdoba.<\/p>\n
This registration shows how distinctive local know-how can become a protected European asset. It will provide tangible benefits for C\u00f3rdoba\u2019s jewellery sector by helping to prevent misuse of the name. It also enables local businesses to strengthen the value of their shared heritage and specialist know-how in the European market.<\/p>\n
It brings overall benefits to all those involved in the creation, production and marketing of a piece of jewellery from Cordoba. Jewellery that can now be worn with the assurance that it enjoys greater protection.<\/p>\n
