The European Patent Office (EPO) has announced the “European Inventor Award” which will take place in Berlin in 2026
The application period is open until September 30, 2025, and nominations can be submitted by the candidate himself or by any other person or any public entity.
The European Inventor Award is presented in five different categories.
– The Industry category is awarded in recognition of inventors of outstanding and commercially successful technologies patented by European companies with more than 250 employees and an annual turnover exceeding €50 million.
– The Research category recognizes inventors working at universities or research centers who have achieved significant technological advances, enhancing the reputation of their institutions.
– There is a category open to all national inventors from non-EPO countries whose inventions have considerable commercial success in Europe.
– There is an SME category, open to companies with fewer than 250 employees and an annual turnover of less than €50 million at the time the patent was granted.
– Finally, there is a Lifetime Achievement category for inventors who have made long-standing contributions in their technical field)
