Prices are rising on everything, even counterfeits. new statistics on counterfeit retention

The cost of living rises! Prices are rising on everything, indeed, even counterfeits!

According to the latest report published by the European Commission and the EUIPO, the value of all counterfeits seized in 2024 would have reached €3.8 billion on the market (you can finance a lot of bad things with that money…), which is a new record.

I find it striking, but the reality is that CDs and DVDs continue to appear among the most seized items in the statistics. It’s not striking, but rather worrying that toys continue to account for almost 18%, and that cigarettes and cosmetics appear in the top 5 (of products seized). And it’s not about wearing a fake watch or T-shirt, but about endangering consumers’ health.

The statistics are made from figures provided by EU surveillance authorities and Police. The figures continue to highlight the need to keep an eye on this, take proactive measures, and seek expert advice if we want to stay ahead of counterfeiters.

The full report can be found here (https://euipo.europa.eu/tunnel-web/secure/webdav/guest/document_library/observatory/documents/reports/2025_EU_Enforcement_report/EU_enforcement_of_IPRs:_results_at_EU_border_&_EU_internal_market_2024_en.pdf).
